clinical psychology practice

I see adults (18 and up) for individual counseling on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Sessions are held at the Interfaith Counseling Center, either in person or via telehealth. I cannot provide counseling to people who live outside Kentucky. To inquire about counseling, I prefer you contact me by email or by completing this website’s Contact Form. It may take me a week or more to get back with you. Specialization areas include:

  • Anxiety, worry, & stress
  • Communication & boundary setting
  • Overcoming people-pleasing
  • Trauma recovery & EMDR
  • Perimenopause & menopause
  • Improving sexual intimacy for wives

My fee is $175 for a 55-minute session. Payment is required at each visit. We accept credit or debit cards, HSA cards, checks, and cash.

Insurance & Financial Assistance

Insurance

I do not accept insurance and am considered an "out-of-network" provider for insurance plans, such as Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, United, etc. If you want to submit a claim to your insurance company, we can provide you with an itemized bill.

Financial Assistance

Through generous donations from churches and individuals, the Interfaith Counseling Center offers assistance funds for clients who are unable to pay the full fee. By completing a Fee Reduction Form, you may qualify to see me at a fee as low as $110 an hour, depending on family size, income, and financial situation. We have other excellent therapists who charge less than I do, and you can learn about them at the Interfaith website.

Therapeutic Style

I view clients with a 'whole person' perspective and treat them mind, body, and soul.

For example, we might explore:

  • How to handle emotions well and think more positively (mind)
  • How to improve sleep and nutrition patterns (body)
  • How their particular faith practices could benefit them emotionally (soul)

Most of my clients have some sort of faith background, although I do accept counseling clients who have no particular interest in faith. I have found that clients who are willing to incorporate their faith into their treatment get better faster, but I also respect and enjoy working with clients who do not wish to discuss spiritual issues as part of counseling. I tailor my psycho-therapeutic interventions to each client’s individual needs.

As with any relationship, therapy works best when there is trust, mutual respect, and a sense of connection. A good working relationship is key, so I will call you prior to scheduling a counseling session in order to evaluate whether or not we are a good fit. If I’m not the right therapist for you to see, I can provide you with contact information for other recommended professionals in the central Kentucky area.

Each therapist has a unique style. My style is direct, active, and warm. I do not tend to sit back and say nothing. I have no problem giving specific advice and opinions when asked, and sessions tend to be focused on solutions, not problems. While at times it is important and useful to delve into the past, the focus tends to be more on the present. Pain, stress, and difficult times provide some of the best opportunities to create meaning and happiness.

Sometimes, clients need only one session focused on a particular problem. At other times, a deeper focus on breaking long-standing patterns is indicated. The average course of therapy is 12 to 20 sessions over 6 to 12 months. Many clients prefer to schedule visits every two to three weeks (instead of every week) to allow themselves time to work on the topics we discussed in session.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS

I do not provide child custody evaluations or treatment for bipolar disorder, substance abuse, addictions, eating disorders, cutting (self-injury), same-sex attraction, or court-ordered clients. Because I am not a physician, I cannot prescribe medication, but I can work with your doctor (or refer you to a good psychiatrist) if medication would benefit your treatment.

PRESCRIBING MEDICATIONS
